The City of Zurich

5 Days Itinerary

How are you — Wie gehts?

Good evening — Guten Abend

Thank you — Danke

The city of Zurich, a global centre for banking and finance, lies at the north end of Lake Zurich in northern Switzerland. The picturesque lanes of the central Altstadt (Old Town), on either side of the Limmat River, reflect its pre-medieval history. Waterfront promenades like the Limmatquai follow the river toward the 17th-century Rathaus (town hall).

1 – 2 Days Exploring the City Centre

Once at the airport walk toward the train station, buy a ticket and get the train to (from platform 4) Zurich HB which is the central station.

Transport in Zurich is straightforward to use, buy a ticket for 24 hours at the price of 8,80 Frank and you can get buses, tram and train within the blue area which is the centre area. To get to know places use google map and keep reading this short travel guide.

My Hotel recommendation is Sheraton located in the northern part of Zurich surrounded by friendly, walkable streets and places explore. And Marriott located in the central part of the city if you prefer to be more central.

Spend the first day or two walking around the city; I was there in December, and I found the streets market and went to the Illuminarium, probably available just on this period of the year, next to the National Museum but still good to go.

Walk along the river from Bahnhofstrasse to Bellevue. Stop at Parade Platz (here there are gold bars under the streets) and San Peter, who has the most prominent clock face in all Europe.

Interesting also The Fraumünster a church built on the remains of a former abbey for aristocratic women which was founded in 853 by Louis the German for his daughter Hildegard.

Stop at Raclette Factory to taste a traditional Swiss meal made with cheese, potatoes and bread, very yummy.

3 – 4 Days Zurich surroundings

Zurich is such a charming city, there is so much to see and explore, but it all depends on how much time you have. Another lovely place to visit is the Botanical Garden; there are so many trees species inside those rounded greenhouses coming from different part of the world.

The same day, you can visit the Freitag store. Its tremors have since made themselves felt in Zurich and the cities of Europe and spread to Asia, making FREITAG the unofficial outfitter of all urban, bike-riding individualists. Today the products are available in 24 FREITAG Stores as well as at over 400 resellers around the world.

I love Freitag bags. Its style is original and unique.

Right in front of the Freitag store, there is the Prime Tower (wear casual shoes and trousers if you’d like to visit this place). The main entrance is behind the building. The Prime Tower, also named “Maag-Tower” in an earlier stage of planning, is a skyscraper. At the height of 126 metres, it was the highest skyscraper in Switzerland from 2011 until 2015. The building is near the Hardbrücke railway station.

The beauty of Zurich it stands on all the nice walks in its surrounding, if you go towards Wipkingen you will find paths and parks for long walks. I personally love this city, it really fascinated me. Is just so different from other big cities, very clean, tidy, you feel breathing fresh air and especially they are very precise on time! Like a swiss watch! 🙂

During my time spent travelling in Zurich, I record a video all around the city, have a look! and please support my channel by subscribing and liking the video.
